Fall Trip Day Five

An easy hour drive down from Santa Fe, Albuquerque is a busy place.  Two-four lane interstates criss cross the city (I-40 & I-25).  The former US 66 is Central Avenue and cuts through along side I-40.  I drove to the eastern outskirts to visit the Nuclear Museum, through Sunport Airport and adjacent Kirkland Air Force Base.  From there the interstate drops at a constant rate into downtown.  At the far eastern approach into the city, you can see the entire metro area including the airport.  Seems weird to be looking down at a Southwest flight that already took off.
New Mexico University is in a world by itself, yet minutes from downtown.  I was amazed at all the outside activities going on.  It is a typical urban university that flows into the community without any barriers.
Old Town is unique and very much alive.  It's a great place to visit.  If you come here, spend some time bargaining and wandering the side streets.
The Balloons start their activities this coming weekend.  I would not be here if it was next weekend.  Don't get me wrong, I'd love to watch them, but I can't imagine trying to get a room or the traffic.
I'm staying at the Drury Inn, a 'high rise' with a view of the city to the south.  They have several in KC and St L. and are known for their free drinks plus dinner and breakfast feasts included with the room.
I'll be heading to xxx in the morning.
